A note from Dr. Alaire:

"I have put together this Equine Foaling Medical Kit ("EquiFoalingKit™") after many years of
practical clinical experience on what would be essential to have on hand when your mare foals.

*This EquiFoalingKit™ is to aid you in helping your mare and newborn, during the birthing process.

Over the years I have been to many foalings (too many to mention!), and have had numerous foals born at our farm in our own breeding program. I have pulled together what I believe as 'important' items listed below, into one handy kit to have close by when your mare foals...combining necessity with affordability.

Key info for foal babies:

**Here is an important note about the Orange Fleet Enema which I have included in the EquiFoalingKit™ as found in my list below. Unlike nearly every foal kit I have seen on the internet and in equine catalogs, I ONLY recommend a MINERAL OIL-based product for newborns, NOT water/saline!! A saline-based enema is harsher and works by drawing water out of the gut to cause evacuation. This upsets the hydration balance of our newborns who are less than one day old (they are pretty fragile at this point in their little lives!). A MINERAL OIL-based enema is gentle and causes NO harm, and 'gets the job done' without effecting 'things' systemically. A MINERAL OIL-based enema as found in the EquiFoalingKit™, will NOT interfere with hydration of our babies.

Frankly, the saline-based enema products are generally less costly for the seller!

Kept by the house door or near the stall with a big towel, the EquiFoalingKit™ might just ease some of the stress that we all feel at foaling time. It's an exciting time! All of the watching and waiting (it seems like an eternity!), and then all of a sudden at a bit past midnight...the foal arrives...quickly! It's nice to have these Foaling items nearby in case you need any or all of them.

 Key info for our mares:

**Just a reminder to contact your veterinarian if your mare demonstrates vaginal discharge and/or premature udder development or begins leaking milk well before her due date, as these can be warning signs of placental disease and a possible compromised pregnancy.

As always, discuss these Foaling items with your Veterinarian. The EquiFoalingKit™ is intended for use with adult supervision.

EquiFoalingKit weighs 4 lbs. 2 oz. with carry case not packed for shipping.

All of the supplies in the EquiFoalingKit™ which are 'dated', have expiration dates greater than one year.

All other contents are purchased and supplied to my EquiKit™'s fresh, such as the Latex Nitrile exam
and shoulder gloves, batteries for the flashlight, and including the SyrVet Cohesive bandage
(quite important because these contain a natural rubber latex product-can breakdown over time and not be as useful!).
I make small, fresh batches of my Herbal Healing Salve for use in
the Kits and this will have a shelf life of about 2 years.

All the items in the EquiFoalingKit™ fit into a clear-sided plastic box with a 2 snap-lid and carry handle, to keep items clean, dry, and organized. Nearly all items have been unwrapped and readied for quick use, bandages rolled, batteries installed, excess packaging removed. I prefer the plastic carry case which is smooth and clear-sided, because I feel that canvas-style, nylon, or cloth carry bags used to 'sack' equine medical supplies such as mare & foal and bandaging materials, etc., can be good hosts for the development of mold spores, particularly when stored in a barn. The EquiFoalingKit™'s non-porous surface can be wiped clean and it resists water and dust.

RETARDS MILDEW, ROT, and will not RETAIN ODORS!

*Please note that when you purchase my EquiFoalingKit™, you WILL receive ALL of the medical supplies as listed above and as seen in my photos, but on occasion, due to packaging and design changes by my vendors, some items may have slightly different packaging, shape, or color than those items seen in my EquiFoalingKit™ photos.*

Thanks for your interest and I ask that you carefully consider this EquiFoalingKit™ as a meaningful and prudent choice for yourself or another horse owner. Easy to carry from house to barn to pasture.

*This would make a wonderful gift for that significant other or simply for yourself!"
