EquiTrailKit ™ A word from Dr. Alaire: This trail riding first aid kit, is for your serious consideration, as a thoughtful and prudent gift to your horse and yourself, or to another responsible horse owner. Whether it is an unforeseen accident or sudden medical occurrence out on the trail, preparedness is a crucial part of responsible equine ownership. An urgent health care situation with your horse on the trail, regardless of your riding discipline, is the ultimate equalizer. The degree to which you are prepared for an emergency will help you keep your cool and will inevitably improve the outcome for your horse. The medical supplies in my trail riding EquiTrailKit™, were thoughtfully and purposely compiled by myself, an Equine Veterinarian, who has treated horse emergencies for over 17 years. Careful consideration was taken when selecting supplies for this kit, to meet my goal of providing you with a balance between affordability and having the correct breadth of medical supplies to treat most urgent-care situations while away ‘hacking it’ on a trail ride or on an overnighter. That would include, not weighing you down! This EquiTrailKit™ weighs a mere 2 lbs. 12 oz. including fanny pack. The EquiTrailKit™, along with a basic strategy and plan ready to implement, has been thoughtfully designed to allow the horse owner to be better prepared and self-confident about emergency preparedness while trail riding your horse.

Dr. Alaire is a member of.) ***50 items in the EquiTrailKit™ includes:*** · Fanny Bag - adjustable strap and quick release snap. Extremely lightweight, durable rip stop nylon. This fanny pack surely has all the options: adjustable strap and quick release snap. The waistband is adjustable up to 36", however, it also comes with a 12-inch extension belt to accommodate larger sizes or it enables you to wear it lose or over jackets! Very lightweight, rip stop nylon. Holds up well to sunlight, breathes well, and is H2O resistant. Has 3 large zippered compartments and under the front flap is an open pocket for storing about 2 sandwiches, a couple of breakfast bars, your cell phone and papers and such. Even when filled with the entire 50 items, this bag still has room for additional articles of your own! There is also a mesh side carry pocket for a 12 oz. bottle of water. Worn around waist or around your horn. · 1 - Small Flashlight with bright beam. Fresh batteries installed. · 3 - Ibuprofen (Motrin) Packets: 6 - 200 mg. tablets. · 4 - Triple Antibiotic Packets - For minor abrasions and wounds, for you and your horse. Bacitracin, Neomycin and Polymyxin B. · 1 - Sterile Saline – 4 oz. 'Squeezer’ bottle for flushing wounds. · 1 - Scissors - for cutting bandaging materials, etc. · 1 - Linesman Pliers - for cutting wire, pulling shoes, or removing a lodged nail or stick while on the trail. · 1 - Hoof Pick – rubber-coated handle to dislodge rocks or mud you pick up on the trail. · 1 - Bic-style Lighter. · 1 - Tourniquet – for emergency bleeding control only! · 1 - Hooded Poncho – waterproof, durable, one size fits all. · 4 – "Sting Kill" Wipes – for bee or bug bites. The anesthetic formula is non-greasy, non-staining, is absorbed fast and provides safe, effective relief of pain and itching. · 3 – Packets of "Lip-Guard" – ointment which protects and helps soothe chapped or cracked lips. · 4 - "Wet Ones" - thick & strong antibacterial, moist towelettes with soothing Aloe. · 1 - "Syr-Vet" Cohesive Bandage – 4" x 5 yds. (10.2 cm x 4.6 meter). · AAEP – Brochure - "Guidelines to Follow During Equine Emergencies" You might consider adding a few other supplies of your own such as a knife or multi-tool, a running watch with a second hand for your horses heart-rate, Banamine (as per your vets RX), compass, a cell phone {kept on your person in case you fall off of your horse and he/she leaves on you), etc. I did not add these in due to expense and personal preference. Most items are placed in a zip-lock bag. All supplies have an expiration date of at least one year (most cases 2 yrs.). Supplies have been readied for quick use!
